A Tree Fell (In The Woods)

by david

A tree fell in the woods. That's all it took.

The rabbits were playing in the woods when the tree fell. They were frightened by it and ran out of the woods across the field.

Jack was driving the harvester when the rabbits ran out in front of him. First he was startled then he swerved away from them to avoid running them over. Unusually for a farm hand, Jack loved rabbits. The harvester hit a telegraph pole and killed the local telephones.

Stephen and Mary were working from home. Well they were working from their little shack away from home with their computers hooked to the office using the local telephone line. Mary was on-line to the missile command centre whilst Stephen was updating the firewalls and other security software. They knew that they should have worked from within the firewalls but the sunrise over the field just drew them. What Mary and Stephen keyed in at the shack was not what arrived at the missile command centre. All the missiles took off to their programmed destinations - programmed during the 'Cold war'.

Andrew was playing golf. He looked up to see streaks accross the sky. He didn't know what they were.

Sergei was also playing golf. The missiles were not streaking across the sky but coming down to the ground. Sergei knew what they were but not for long.

The 'East' reacted to the surpise 'attack'. The 'Cold War' bas back. Again not for long.

The 'West' reacted to the surpise 'attack'.

A tree stood where the woods had been. the last tree!
