The Companions
From episode 1, Doctor Who was always noted for his (at the moment) companions. Over the years they been have varied - nearly always humanoid (except K9, usually Earth-human (except for a couple of Gallifreyans) and been both male and female. Sometimes they are very intelligent and at other times noted for other attributes.
Below I am including a list of those traveling companions, in the order in which they first appeared, who have been formally acknowledged as being such. From time to time others joined him for a short time. I have included them with Other Main Characters.
